Taiwan's Orchid Island (Lan Yu)
Search "Orchid Island" on my flickr page.

This island is one of my favorite weekend getaway in Taiwan...No problem to spend the whole week there as well. A rather tranquil place where most Taiwanese haven't been to due to its distance.
The most convenient way to go there is by air. I tried to take ferry but found the schedule is very uncertain. It was surprising to me that even a Taiwanese would encouter troubles travelling in Taiwan as a backpacker. (i sorta enjoyed the "exotic" feeling though...;p)
Daily Air provides frequently flies to Orchid Island. It's a small jet plane with 12 passenger seats. The trip might be a bit bumpy but the view is amazing!

I stayed in the very comfortable Yeh Yin village, one of the two villages where traditional aborignal houses are under conservation. Yeh Yin is located at the opposite side from the airport, but no worries, it takes only 15 mins by moped.

An-Hui Homestay (恩惠民宿) owns 2 modern buildings. simple but cozy. Mr. and Mrs. Lee are super friendly and provide free tours, based on Mr. Lee's availability. I also highly recommend people to try Mrs. Lee (李嫂, pronounced as Lisa in Chinese)'s cooking! Very authentic Orchid Island local foods!

Luckily, I heard that the Lee Family's daughter could speak a little English.
Orchid Island provides so little activities but so many natural & cultural treasures...chasing after piggies and climbing on rough reefs along seashores are just so much fun!

Steve made a Orchid Island video on vimeo and I think you guys would enjoy the beauty of Orchid Island as I always do.
